What is US getting from Israel?

I have the habit of picking up interesting topics in the New York times...and since I have a whole hour in the subway, I catch up pretty fast with the news.
So today's topics range from Iran/Israel/ and off course my favorite...USA
So first let me comment on the fact that Republicans with their "holier than thou" religiosity have managed to enter into too many scandals that well, its embarrassing for them. catching up to the democrats? it might be that, Republican politicians have always been in the deep end, they just covered it well, and since they are "Christians" they learned to cover for each other. I don't know if this goes well for them at all.
Anyways, now to the most intriguing of topics...
Iran met with the Big Five,- what Qaddafi calls the "terror" council. Apparently they have agreed to have some inspections done, and if all fails..gues what, the US will do what they do best...SANCTIONS! for all the smart people that the US has, and for all the "good intentions" that they have. Oh not forgetting that they are all about human rights...they really know how to violate all three. Santions are in a way the most horrible act of international politics. They put sanctions on a country...and guess who feels the affects...THE PEOPLE. And you wonder why the US is not oh so popular with the world. The leaders will keep eating, and dressing like kings, and the people will not even have bread to eat. All because the US felt it necessary to "punish" the gvt. As I said, for a country full of intellectuals...there is a very skewed view on this.
So back to Iran. They promise that they are not building weapons and the wold will leave them alone. Well here is the catch, No one believes them. and by no one, I mean the US. If Iran complies with the IAEA...then they are off the hook for a while. However, there is a suspicion of more uranium to build nuclear weapons. Now here is where Iran makes the mistake. They have the not so popular leader in power...plus they keep singing about NDA which is not smart on their part. They should just keep quiet and maybe the rest of the world will leave them alone. The scare is that Tehran will leave the NPT and actually build the weapons. Its actually laughable if you think about it. The permanent members of the UNSC are all armed with weapons. Yet, here is a country that can attain it, and well under what I would say to be US pressure, they cannot abtain that. Wanna bet that Israel has something to do with this?

Speaking of Israel!!....my favorite country when it comes to International arena of politics. Really...its fun. There are these recent reports of the fact that in the recent attacks, both Israel and Palestine violated human rights. So what do you know, the Palestinians seat and wait for the judgment, but Poor poor oh so poor Israel protests. I was reading this with tears in my eyes because I was laughing so hard. It did not take a genius to figure out that the US was behind the delays in further action. I mean, if this was another country, the US will be pushing for trials and arrests quicker than anyone can say Amen. But since this is Israel, there had to be independent researches, and reporting...which delays further action.
So in sight of this, you have to wonder- What is it that Israel has that the US wants? or what are they getting from each other....?
I am past the whole "Israel needs defending". If the Arab nations came together to attack Israel, it would take the hand of God to prevent that, and the US's mighty hand would only be a stick. If Iran wanted to bomb Israel....it would only take a discreet involvement with Hamas to make that happen. So really, US is not protecting Israel. Plus, Israel is not poor. At least no to the standard that the US would be giving them money year after year, ending up in the hands of military.
It is certainly not because US feels guilty. if anyone gives this reason, it would be laughable. It is not...as much as republicans shout it "because they are a chosen people"...that is hogwash.
So what is it? Why is US protecting Israel, even though we all know that Israel is guilty as sin when it comes to Gaza?

The Arab world can not attack Israel. Israel is the only country in the region that has nuclear weapons. That's why the only alternative is through proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah.

Iran would get its nuclear weapons. The endgame is as clear as Dubai swimming pools. Iran is the #1 supplier of crude to China. They can single-handedly cripple Chinese GDP growth. For this reason, the sanctions won't have much teeth.

Besides, Iran has the geographical advantage of sharing a coast with the straits of Hormuz. A narrow marine passage way for 50-60% of the worlds oil. Anyone messes with them and they mine it to high heavens. That would send the price of oil to celestial heights. The economic damage would be the equivalent of several mushroom clouds on just about every nation of the earth.

The international community's huffing and puffing is just theater. Iran has them by the balls. Their chess pieces are very well positioned. The endgame is obvious, they get their nukes.

It would be good for the region. A counterbalance for Israeli nuclear arsenal.

The Arab world can attack Israel. Easily done. They just have to get SA involved enough, but given that they have enough ally issues, i doubt they will get the sheik to care enough. Hamas and Hezbollah has limited support though in the Arab world. Either that or they are making us believe so.

I am willing to bet that Iran has nuclear weapons. And China is their partner in crime.
The fact that they self-reported after years of negotiations should be a red flag. They have the money, the space, and enough influence to be able to produce as much uranium as possible without detection.

As for the Sanctions...China gets enough from other allies to bark a bit at Iran (whether in truth or pretentiously)

Iran might be gaining speed with the IC, but in truth, their only option to actually take control will be to take leave of NPT...in which case they are screwed. So their options are limited...

As for Hormuz...why do you think the US is paranoid? have you not been hearing the disputes, that have gone on for who knows how long?
Not to mention, that the Oil currency is coming close to being changed from $$ to Euro. Now that would screw up US shipments.

I don't think you really know how much power a thermonuclear device can project. Israel has enough to etch holes in place of every Arab nation on the globe. And what can the Arabs fight with? Conventional missiles that can take out buildings while Israel takes out cities per ICBM.

Iran reported a facility that is under construction, it has not been commissioned. It is next to impossible to smuggle nuclear weapons into the middle east clandestinely. The best the Chinese can do is offer the technology. Which no one disputes they are doing. But that is still a long way from having the bomb itself. You can not have the bomb without the world knowing.

Iran only has LEU(Low Enriched Uranium) and even if by some twist of faith-which is highly improbable- they've managed to enrich enough HEU to make a bomb, they have not tested it yet(It leaves an unmistakable seismic signature). And as such, all they have is a very crude makeshift 1st generation weapon that they don't know will blow up for sure.

I did not say anything about it being tested. But I am betting my money on them having one.
Plus they are strategically placed to easily have access to transportation.

now since the CIA is on their case via satellite, that might be a little difficult to be going incognito.

First of all...lets not forgetting that israel is not part of the NPT...and refuses to be part of it, even though it is sighted that they have about 150 heads and counting. That has not been confirmed yet by the country. If you remember the fiasco with Jimmy Carter, they are still play tag with the NPT.
So Israel using the weapons, while they might do so in a so called "defense" is going to be blow to the US. And right now, both the US and Israel cannot afford that.

Iran has more than leu...there would be no barking if they only had leu.

One more time. The Arabs would not dare fight the Israelis. They have nuclear weapons. That's the deterrence effect. You don't go into a war hoping strategic interests or NPT or any other paper agreement would keep your enemy from annihilating you. Military strategists don't work that way. The only act of war the Arabs can muster is funding Hamas/Hezbollah.

If you haven't tested the bomb, You really don't have it. Do you know how many failures current nuclear powers went through before perfecting its manufacture?

I don't see how Iran is barking. They are enriching LEU very well within their rights under intl law.

They are not barking?
they have had uranium for ages now. There was a ruckus back in 2003 when it was discovered that they were in the process of creating technology for a nuclear warhead.
So a couple of days ago, Iran self-reports...then a couple days later, voila it turns out they actually have the technology to build warheads.
unless you believe in innocence of sovereign states, I don't think this is all a coincidence or what could be an awful misunderstanding.

As for Israel, my beef with them is mostly that they are hiding behind the US.
and still claim to have no weapons. In my good days, I think of them as some smart brownnosers, on bad days, I compare them to the Gollum

By barking I assumed you meant threatening.

Are they trying to build a bomb? yes of course.

Can anyone prove it? apparently not.

I don't remember a ruckus in 2003. I just know they've been accused of engaging in nuclear warhead design as far back as 03.

Meanwhile no one noticed/coughed while Israel go theirs.

dmuragijimana said...

As far as you and I are concerned...Israel has no nuclear warheads.

I am just a little bit skeptical that for a country that supposedly has more warheads than China(debatable), the US still keeps sending them more money, and bailing them out when they kill thousands of people in Gaza.
allies or not, the US is keeps Israel in a close pocket, and makes sure that they are not justly prosecuted.

If Jimmy Carter says Israel has nuclear weapons, that's good enough for me.

dmuragijimana said...

Really?
I love Carter, but he is not the most intuitive of leaders really.

But he was not the first one to speculate on that.
